SuNaLab recent updates and activities

Lic. Catalina Cabana Saavedra from SuNaLab, was selected to participate in the SP Advanced School on Colloids, which will be held at Campinas, SP, Brazil, from Oct. 28th to Nov. 7th, 2018. – 09/2018


Dr. Kyungmin Choi, from the Nanoporous Materials Lab, at Sookmyung Women’s University, Seoul South Korea, visited SuNaLab last August 20-24th. During his visit, Dr. Choi gave an open seminar for the College of Chemistry on “Nanocrystalline MOFs for Nanoplatforms“. – 08/2018


Dr. Raquel Vico from SuNaLab jointly with Dr. Laura Fanani will deliver the Symposium “BIO-MEMBRANES: Dynamic and interactions with bio-active molecules and nanostructured systems”, this August 13th, in the Centro de Estudio e Investigación de la Enfermedad de Chagas y Leishmaniasis of the Facultad de Ciencias Médicas in the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. – 07/2018


Lic. Martín Villanueva from SuNaLab, was selected to participate in the coming SP Advanced School on Colloids, which will be held in Campinas, SP, Brasil from 09/28 to 10/07, 2018. In addition, he was granted with a Exchange Program Fellowship (ELAP) to visit Prof. J. C. Scaiano Group in the University of Ottawa, Canada. – 07/2018


The workshop, “Introduction to a New Class of Porous Materials called MOFs and their Applications”, was held in the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH), in the city of Lima, Peru. Between 9 and 13 of July, 42 students with different backgrounds had the opportunity to learn about reticular chemistry, basic topology concepts applied to MOFs, synthetic strategies, functionalization and material’s application in water harvesting, selective CO2 capture, enzyme-inspired heterogeneous catalysis, drug delivery, crystallography without crystals, among others. The students from two different countries had the chance to observe two different synthetic procedures to obtain HKUST-1 and MOF-5 crystals and participated actively on the proposed activities on the chemistry and application of metal-organic frameworks. – 07/2018


Lic. Martín Villanueva from SuNaLab, was selected to participate in the coming 2018 ACS Summer School on Green Chemistry & Sustainable Energy, to be held in the Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Colorado – 06/2018


Lic. Jonh Pinzón Barrantes from SuNaLab, was awarded the third place in the contest 3MT (“My thesis in 3 minutes”), which took place within the VIII Jornadas de Postgrado in the Facultad de Ciencias Químicas, UNC. The work presented was entitled: “Aggregation state of Amphotericin B when interacting with glycolipid βCD-C16” – 06/2018

Supramolecular Chemistry and Nanostructured Systems Lab members presented their recent work in this open workshop for general audience organized by our College, which where also part of the II Jornadas de Ciencia y Tecnología.


Dr. Alejandro Fracaroli from SuNaLab, will be a lecturer in the coming workshop “Introduction to New Porous Materials Called MOFs, and Their Applications“, which is going to be held at the Faculty of Science and Philosophy of Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, from July 9th to 13th. The workshop is organized by Msc. Fiorella Olivera Venturo and has the sponsorship from the University and the ACS Peru Chapter.


Last April 23 to 27, 2018, Dr. Laura Rossi from SuNaLab, dictated a PhD course entitled “Green Chemistry, its Principles and Applications. Catalysis” in the College of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Pharmacy, at the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán.


The magazine Nueva, highlights the development of MOFs as a potencial solution to water scarcity by harvesting water from air humidity  – 03/2018
The article comments on the importance of developing new materials such as MOFs in solving the problem of accessing drinkable water in different regions in the world. This problem already affects important regions of Argentina in particular.


SuNaLab was awarded with a ONRG grant to develop a research project on Porous Materials with Application in Detection and Degradation of Toxins  – 03/2018


SuNaLab was awarded with a CONICET grant to develop an international cooperation project with South Korea (National Research Fundation, NRF). This project targets the Preparation of Mesoscopic Constructs using MOFs Preparation of Mesoscopic Constructs using MOFs. 12/2017.

The published article describes the benefits of international cooperation within the frame of Global Mentoring, in order to challenge high impact targets in science.

Supramolecular Chemistry and Nanostructured Systems Lab members presented their latest contributions in the 2017 Simposio Nacional de Química Orgánica, organized by the Argentinean Society of Organic Chemistry, SAIQO.
